Don't Understand the Closed Primary Election?

Don’t Stay Home, Come Learn.

Elections matter, but understanding how they work matters just as much.

If you’ve ever felt confused about Louisiana’s Closed Primary Election, you’re not alone. Who can vote? Why party affiliation matters? What role does “No Party” status play? These are important questions, and the Acadiana Republican Women (ARW) are creating space for clear, factual answers.

On February 18, 2026, ARW will host an informative and timely meeting designed to help voters better understand the rules, purpose, and impact of Closed Primary Elections, and what they mean for participation at every level.

What You’ll Learn

This educational evening brings together trusted leaders with firsthand knowledge of Louisiana’s election process:

  • Nancy Landry, Louisiana Secretary of State, will explain the rules and procedures governing Closed Primary Elections.

  • Louis Perret, Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court, will provide local insight into how elections are administered in our parish.

  • Charlie Buckels, Deputy Chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party (LAGOP), will share the history and purpose of Closed Primary Elections and discuss the impact of No-Party participation.

Whether you’re a long-time voter or simply want to be better informed, this discussion will offer clarity, context, and confidence heading into future elections.
